The Guardian reports that Bruce Baird, a former Liberal member of Australia's federal parliament, has died at the age of 84.
Baird held the transport portfolio in New South Wales between 1988 and 1995, according to the newspaper. He also served as deputy leader of the state's Liberal Party.
The Guardian credits Baird with helping Sydney secure the Olympic Games.
His children include former New South Wales premier Mike Baird, ABC journalist Julia Baird and marketing executive Steve Baird, the report says.
